World Cancer Day

Saturday, Feb 4 is World Cancer Day, a day dedicated to “spreading awareness, educating the public and lobbying for change”.  Most of the cancer organizations have events planned for today, so check with your local affiliates for information on activities in your area.

In the US, there’s currently pending legislation (H.R. 733) to support Pancreatic Cancer research.  If you’re a frequent reader, you’ve probably seen a post or two about this important piece of legislation.  In a nutshell, it proposes to increase funding for pancreatic cancer research, in a time of declining research dollars at the NIH.  This legislation can make the difference between making a game-changing discovery this year, or another 15 years of slow going.  The Pancreatic Cancer Action Network (PANCAN) has a web page that makes it easy to contact your congressman and show your support.
